 JOB ANNOUNCEMENT West African Journalists Association-WAJA-/ Capacity Building Project -CBP

Title: Audio-Visual Press Expert

Location:  Bamako, Mali

The West African Journalists Association (WAJA) is composed of professional media unions and associations from the 16 countries of West Africa. suite

Its main objectives are to:

-          Safeguard the professional ethics and promote journalism as a major social function.

-          Work to consolidate freedom of expression, press freedom and access to information

-          Ensure efficient protection of journalists against political, economic, financial, cultural and ideological or any other form of pressures.

-          Protect the right of people to have honest and pluralist information.

The WAJA initiated Capacity Building Project which aims at reinforcing professional capacities of media professionals in the sub-region, its’ own institutional capacity and that of national unions and associations is supported by its’ partners including the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations (UN).

The WAJA-CBP which has three (3) components: Training, Defense of  Press Freedom and the Publishing and Spreading of information is recruiting an Audio Visual Press Expert for its Secretariat located in Bamako, Mali.

Overall Responsibilities:

Under the authority and supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Audio Visual Press Expert will:

-          Draft terms of reference for training modules in the field of audio visual media

-          Carry out training sessions in the field of audio visual media

-          Draft reports on periodical training sessions

-          Draft and implement project proposals for audio visual media

-          Fulfill any other responsibility assigned by the coordinator

Qualifications:

-          Advanced degree  in journalism

-          At least five (5) years of experience in Newsrooms

-          Knowledge of  media and professional associations in West Africa

-          Advanced abilities in producing written and oral reports in one of the two languages French or English with a good working knowledge of the other.  Portuguese mastery can be an asset

-          Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)

-          Previous experience in institutional capacity building and drafting and implementing project proposals.

 The position is full time – Salary is estimated at international standards.
